WENA. THE PODCAST.

Sharing science and life lessons, one conversation at a time.

BIO

The acronym WENA is a colloquial word used in South African languages like isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho & Setswana. Its translated meaning is "you", which informs the heart of our podcast: You, the Listener.

The podcast intends to teach, to talk, to listen and to learn with you, wena! We engage on the "Who, Why, Where, What and When" of Everyone in Neurosciences throughout Africa, letting you know about how our guests are making a name across both hemispheres - of the brain, and the world.

How did we get here?

the NETWORK of NEUROSCIENTISTS

The story of WENA. The Podcast begins in the winter months of 2023. At the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, two scientists with a shared curiosity for the knowledges of neuroscience had a vision: to amplify African research; to relate to the listener; to build a network.

White Structure

the BEAUTY of the BRAIN

Neuroscience describes the field of study of the nervous system; its development; and its functions. From tiny structures engaging at nanoscopic scales, to the shift of an entire system: the beauty of the brain spans from molecular neurochemistry, to the interaction of nerve cells; the nature of an experience; and far beyond.

the ACCESS to SCIENCE

Knowledges are our birth right.

Storytelling is foundational in building ecosystems and community. All of life interacts in some way to build a stronger, more unified environment. These interactions thrive on mutual benefit and symbiosis - working together to achieve a collective wellbeing.

This is why neuroscience does not belong only in publications or rooms with tall walls. Neural knowledges belong to us all. At WENA. The Podcast we share our stories so they may be retold, and retold, and retold...

asking the questions

an interlocutor in us all

Interlocutors ask questions and offer answers. These dialogues are a reflection of a moment in time, captured with truth and without judgement. As we are always learning, we welcome the change of opinion; the opportunities to revisit conversations; the inescapable reality of making mistakes.

Thank you for joining us. We are you, wena!
